2018 Modern Woodman's Speech Contest at SJS does not disappoint. Winners announced today!
For weeks SJS students in grades 5-8 grappled with the topic: "Inventions that have improved the quality of life." Students had to select and research an invention of their choosing and prepare a three to five minute convincing speech.
The Modern Woodsman Speech Contest provides SJS students the opportunity to not only work on their research and rhetorical writing skills, but to increase their comfort level with public speaking. SJS believes that confidence in public speaking is an extremely valuable tool. Building strong communication skills is an essential part of the SJS Language Arts curriculum.
On Monday, April 23 three students from grades 5-8 were selected to present their speeches to three judges. Of these twelve, three will move on to the next level of local competition. The judges will have a most difficult job choosing just three students. With topics from Legos to computers, all of the contestants were both informative and convincing.
Today, Thursday, April 26 the following winners have been announced:
1st Place: Samuel M., 2nd Place: Maeve M., 3rd Place: Olivia B.
