The St. John Eagles had a wonderful Fall 2018 soccer season, playing 5 league matches against schools in the Diocese of Norwich (Sacred Heart of Groton, St. Patrick’s and St. Bernard’s) and 3 matches against The Country School (Madison) and Pine Point School (Stonington). All of St. John’s games were played on opposing team fields, but in the end the St. John Eagles ended the season undefeated!
The coaches for the Fall 2018 season were Ms. Val Boyd, Mr. Richard Kollmer and Mr. Jon Todzia. The Eagles were made up of 21 enthusiastic players from Grades 5 through 8. For most of the games, defense was played by Damian P., Emily M., Gillian F., Jack M., and Marianna A. with Jack F. and in goal, backed up by Michael K. Midfielders were Alan C., Juan P., Kate R., Katie B., Margaret F., Sophia M., Nola S., Nick T., and Sam T. Forward was played by Caleb T., Daniel F., Jack F., Lily S., Michael K., and Ronan F.
St. John School Soccer 2018
A huge thanks to the parents who were brave enough to play in the annual season finale Player-Parent game, held on a beautiful sunny afternoon of October 30. As usual, the players won, but a great time was had by all!
Both the Youth Intramural Soccer and Co-Ed Soccer teams were blessed with the opportunity to learn from one of England’s best, Coach Matt Ludwiniak, an instructor from United Kingdom International Soccer. He provided fun drills for improving footwork and shooting. Funding from the St. John Athletic Department enabled us to provide 4 sessions with him, and we are grateful for this opportunity.
